Nelson Cheng has over 20 years of healthcare experience of which over 13 years have been within the ambulatory surgery center (ASC) space. Prior to joining Gramercy Surgery Center, Mr. Cheng worked with multi-specialty and single-specialty medical practices in New York, specializing in billing and patient experience enhancement. Since joining Gramercy Surgery Center in 2006, Nelson has worked tirelessly within every single administrative department of the company and has had the benefit of watching each section adapt to ongoing changes.
Mr. Cheng started working at Gramercy Surgery Center with a focus on medical equipment and coordinating with various medical equipment vendors. For several years, he was responsible for projects such as a cadaver labs and similar training events, which lay at the crossroads of medical equipment, surgeon satisfaction, and business development. From this position, Mr. Cheng’s knowledge and experience expanded to other sections within the company. To date, he is the only individual to have spent time working at the associate level or as a manager in every single administrative section within the company. His experience in managing Patient Care Representatives, Scheduling, Pre-Admission Testing, Revenue Cycle Management, Purchasing, Inventory Management, Facilities Maintenance, and Business Development, now allows for seamless administrative collaboration with clinical leadership.
During Nelson’s tenure with Gramercy Surgery Center, he has assisted the company in its growth from a two-operating room center to its current two-facility structure. With Mr. Cheng’s customer service and business development-centric mindset, Gramercy Surgery Center has been able to successfully integrate additional specialties over the years in a manner that has maintained surgeon and patient satisfaction. His wide breadth of experience within the company brings institutional and historic knowledge to the forefront of every management discussion or decision.
Mr. Cheng’s experience throughout various sections of the company, as well as the longstanding relationships that he has built with surgeons’ practices, sales representatives in all fields, and the working relationships with both clinical and non-clinical personnel, will ensure that Gramercy Surgery Center continues to grow. In 2021, Nelson earned the Certified Administrator Surgery Center (CASC) credential.
Mr. Cheng is a graduate from SUNY Farmingdale and currently resides in Long Island City with his wife and dog. Nelson and his wife Ashley frequently find ways to show appreciation to the Gramercy Surgery Center staff with cooking and baking for everyone
