Austin Cheng is a second-generation surgery center operator, first joining the team as a Business Development Associate in 2012-2015 and returning in 2019 as Vice President before being promoted to Chief Executive Officer in February 2020.  Austin is the son of the Founder of Gramercy Surgery Center, Katy Chiang, and took over the mantle of leadership upon her passing to cancer.  He is trained as an attorney, having served on Active Duty as a US Army JAG Corps attorney before returning home to take over Gramercy Surgery Center right before the COVID-19 pandemic. He took over and stabilized operations through an unprecedented time and drove the Gramercy Surgery Center facilities to be voted #1 and #2 ambulatory surgery centers by Newsweek 4 years in a row and Top 5 ambulatory surgery centers 5 years in a row.  His vision is for Gramercy Surgery Center to become synonymous with being the premier multi-facility, multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center in New York City.

Although Austin has chosen to continue leading the company that his mother founded nearly twenty years ago, he still maintains his qualifications to practice law in the states of New York and New Jersey. He also serves on non-for-profit boards as a Board Member of the CUNY School of Public Health Foundation and Queens Legal Services, where he is passionate about giving back to the community.

Austin is a proud alumnus of Union College, Brooklyn Law School, and Cornell University (Masters of Health Administration). He has been recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and also holds a certification as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
